Liberty Kenya Joins UN Global Compact, Deepens Push for Ethical and Sustainable Business

Liberty Kenya has joined the United Nations Global Compact. The move strengthens its commitment to responsible business practices.

Liberty Kenya has officially become a member of the United Nations Global Compact, the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative, in a move aimed at strengthening ethical and responsible business practices across its operations.

The milestone was marked through a formal certificate handover ceremony held at the company’s headquarters, highlighting Liberty’s commitment to global standards on human rights, labour, environmental protection, and anti-corruption.

By joining the initiative, Liberty Kenya has pledged to integrate the UN Global Compact’s Ten Principles into its daily operations, leadership decisions, and corporate culture. The firm will also enhance transparency through regular public reporting.

Liberty Kenya Group CEO Kieran Godden said the move reflects a deeper shift in how the company views sustainability.

“At Liberty, we aim to support our customers’ financial freedom, but we also know that lasting freedom depends on a fair and ethical society. This step moves us beyond simply giving back to doing what is right in every part of our business,” Godden stated.

As part of its new direction, Liberty Kenya will focus on four key areas designed to embed responsible conduct at all levels:

Strong Governance: Improving systems to ensure honesty and accountability.

Clear Reporting: Using strict standards to track and share social and environmental impact.

Industry Partnerships: Working with other players to solve shared challenges.

Capacity Building: Training staff and agents to promote ethical practices.

Global Compact Network Kenya welcomed Liberty Kenya into the initiative, noting the importance of responsible leadership in the financial services sector.

Executive Director Judy Njino said the move shows Liberty’s understanding of its role in shaping strong and inclusive economies.

“By committing to these principles, Liberty is reinforcing the link between good governance, ethical conduct, and sustainable business success. We look forward to working together to strengthen transparency and promote responsible business across Kenya and the region,” Njino said.

As part of the commitment, Liberty Kenya will submit an annual Communication on Progress report. This public update will outline how the company is applying the Ten Principles and contributing to broader social and economic goals.

The step places Liberty Kenya among a growing number of local firms choosing to build long-term value through trust, accountability, and ethical leadership, while aligning business growth with sustainable development.
