Bitter Fallout: Trump Says Elon Musk Has “Lost His Mind”

Trump says Elon Musk has “lost his mind,” showing their public fallout is far from over.

President Donald Trump has openly criticised Elon Musk, saying the Tesla boss has “completely lost it.” This marks a major low point in their once-friendly relationship, which has quickly turned into a dramatic standoff that’s making waves in both Washington and on Wall Street.

During a chat with journalists while flying to New Jersey, Trump tried to appear calm, but his words told a different story. “I’ve been busy with China, Iran, Russia… I’m not even thinking about Elon,” he said. Still, in another interview with ABC, he didn’t hold back, calling Musk “a man who has gone off the rails.”

Money, Power, and Personal Jabs

The war of words kicked off after Musk described Trump’s major new spending plan as a disaster. The bill, aimed at funding national infrastructure, has also faced heat for increasing debt and cutting welfare funds. Trump, clearly not pleased, fired back from the Oval Office, saying he was “very let down” by Musk’s remarks.

Inside sources say Trump scrapped a scheduled phone call with Musk — and is now thinking of selling or donating the Tesla Model S he bought just months ago. “It’s under review,” one top aide revealed, adding that the car hasn’t been moved from the White House lawn.

On the business side, Tesla’s stock took a big hit, dropping more than 14% before seeing a slight recovery. Meanwhile, Musk, who once worked closely with Trump in a government role, has remained silent. He even pulled back threats to delay space missions that are vital to NASA, trying to cool things down.

Even so, there are no signs of the two patching things up anytime soon. Reports say Musk asked to speak with Trump again, but the White House shut it down.

As tensions rise, the political cost could be huge. Musk was Trump’s top campaign donor in 2024, giving nearly $300 million. Now, he could stop supporting Trump or even back other conservative groups before the 2026 elections.

With huge contracts and political funds on the line, this battle between Trump and Musk is turning into a major power clash — one that could shake both Silicon Valley and Capitol Hill in the months to come.
