Reuben Kigame Announces 2027 Presidential Bid—Vows to Restore Political Morality

Reuben Kigame confirms he will run for president in 2027.

Gospel musician and social justice advocate Reuben Kigame has officially revealed that he is preparing to contest for the presidency in the 2027 General Election. Speaking during an interview on NTV’s Fixing the Nation, Kigame stated that his decision is final and that his campaign launch is just weeks away.

“I’m not hoping, I’m planning to be on the ballot in 2027,” Kigame said. “It’s about two years to the election, so two years is good enough to roll it out.”

This will be Kigame’s second presidential bid. He was blocked from running in 2022 due to not meeting signature requirements set by the IEBC.

Kigame noted that his political journey is driven by a desire to restore dignity in leadership. He criticised the tendency of voters to ignore a leader’s character during elections and pointed to high-profile court cases, including that of former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, as examples of what happens when integrity is ignored.

“We’ve got to look at the character of the person we elect,” he said. “It’s not just about the presidency; we need ethical MCAs, MPs, Women Reps, and Governors.”

Kigame said that Kenya must move away from leaders who make big promises but lack honesty. He believes the current crop of leaders has failed to uphold values, resulting in public mistrust.

“Kenyans must begin to evaluate leaders based on how faithfully they follow through on their promises. We can’t keep rewarding empty rhetoric.”

The former presidential aspirant urged churches, civil society, and media to unite and monitor how leaders are performing, not just during elections, but throughout their term. He said scorecards should be used to measure transparency and service delivery.

“We need value-building initiatives, not just infrastructure and mega projects.”

Kigame praised young people for becoming more involved in national matters and calling out wrongdoing. He encouraged them to remain active and examine politicians’ track records closely.

Kigame’s political message continues to centre on ethical leadership and clean governance. His first campaign was seen by many as a breath of fresh air, and his comeback in 2027 could reignite conversations around integrity in politics.

The official campaign launch is expected in the coming weeks, and Kigame says he is confident that this time, the journey will go all the way to the ballot.
