UK court document lists four bribery charges against businessman Zunneth Sattar.

Brigadier General Dan Kuwali, the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) Commandant of the National Defence College, has been named in the UK bribery case against businessman Zunneth Abdul Rashid Sattar. The court document also lists State House Chief of Staff Prince Harvey Kapondamgaga, the late Vice President Dr Saulos Chilima, and former senior government officials like Reyneck Matemba, the ex-Inspector General of Police and ex-ACB boss.

The charges stem from a long-running investigation into alleged corrupt dealings involving foreign public officials. The UK’s Central London Magistrates’ Court has set the hearing for May 30, 2025, in a session running from 10:00 to 13:00, specifically under block 11:00–13:00 for bail cases (NGAP).

Four Serious Charges Filed Against Sattar

According to the court list, Zunneth Sattar faces four charges under the Bribery Act 2010, each carrying a maximum penalty of 12 years imprisonment and/or unlimited fine. All the charges are based on alleged bribes paid between March and August 2021 to Prince Kapondamgaga to gain or maintain business advantages.

Charge 1: Between March 31 and April 30, 2021
Charge 2: Between May 1 and June 30, 2021
Charge 3: Between June 1 and June 30, 2021
Charge 4: On or around August 27, 2021

The document confirms that these alleged payments were aimed at influencing Prince Kapondamgaga, who was serving in a senior public position in Malawi at the time.

While the Malawian government has yet to comment on these developments, the case has raised serious questions about international links to corruption and how far the network of bribes may have spread.
