Rihanna releases a new track titled Friend of Mine for the new Smurfs film
After nearly two years of silence in the music scene, Rihanna has made a comeback with Friend of Mine, a new song set to feature in the upcoming Smurfs animated movie. It’s her first track since Born Again, which was part of the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack back in 2022.
Rihanna Stars as Smurfette in Her Return to Animation
The pop icon is also stepping into the world of animation once again, this time as the voice of Smurfette. The Smurfs movie, expected in theatres on July 18, not only features her music but also her voice in a major role. This is Rihanna’s first voice-acting role since 2015’s Home.
She has also appeared in films such as Battleship and Ocean’s 8, adding to her growing list of screen credits.
Album Hopes Still Alive Among Rihanna’s Loyal Fans
Though fans are excited to hear her vocals again, many are still hoping for a full album. Rihanna last released a studio album, ANTI, in 2016. Since then, she has taken a step back from music to grow her beauty and fashion businesses, as well as to embrace motherhood.
Rihanna Eyeing an Oscar but Focused on the Work
In past conversations, Rihanna hinted that winning an Oscar would be a dream, though not a priority. She said recognition is nice, but what matters most to her is the effort she puts into her work.
“I’d love to get there someday. Awards are meaningful, but what matters is giving it your all,” she once said.
Her approach has always been about passion and quality over awards, even though many believe she’s deserving of both Grammys and Oscars.
Fans Celebrate Her Return Ahead of the Movie’s July Release
With Friend of Mine now streaming and excitement building for the Smurfs film, Rihanna’s supporters have plenty to enjoy — even if the long-awaited album isn’t here yet. Her role as Smurfette marks another creative step in her journey, blending music and film in a way only Rihanna can.
The countdown to July 18 is on, as fans prepare to see (and hear) the pop star back on the big screen.
