Rashford signs for Barcelona on loan from Manchester United until June 2026
Marcus Rashford has officially completed a season-long loan move to FC Barcelona from Manchester United, with the agreement running until June 30, 2026, and featuring an option to buy. This marks a fresh start for the England international, whose future at Old Trafford had looked increasingly uncertain.
Following a dip in form and a fallout with manager Rúben Amorim in December 2024, Rashford found himself sidelined and sent on a brief loan to Aston Villa, where he wore the No. 9 shirt. Now in Catalonia, he’s been handed the No. 14 shirt—a number with deep and varied roots at the Spanish giants.
The No. 14 shirt at Barcelona has a mixed legacy. While Thierry Henry brought it prestige with his class and contributions, other notable wearers like Philippe Coutinho, Malcom, Memphis Depay, and João Félix have failed to shine consistently in it. Defensive warrior Javier Mascherano also made the shirt his own during his successful spell at the club.
Interestingly, Johan Cruyff, often associated with the number, never wore it at Barça—he donned No. 9. It was his son Jordi Cruyff who wore 14 briefly during his stint at Camp Nou.
At Manchester United, Rashford’s shirt journey started with No. 39, then 19, before taking over the iconic No. 10 jersey in 2018. That shirt has since gone to Matheus Cunha following Rashford’s fall from grace.
Now wearing No. 14, Rashford faces the challenge of writing a new chapter in Spain—and potentially earning a permanent stay should he rediscover his spark in La Liga.
Barcelona supporters will be hoping that Rashford, still only 27, can reignite his career in a system that suits his pace and direct play. With Xavi Hernández’s tactics favouring quick attackers and high pressing, Rashford might find the freedom and confidence that eluded him in his final months at United.
His form at Barça could also influence his England national team role ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
“Boss moves only.” – Rashford on his Instagram unveiling post, echoing his confidence
“He’s got the talent. He just needs to feel trusted again.” – Spanish football pundit on Catalunya Ràdio
As the cameras roll and Camp Nou awaits, Marcus Rashford will be under the spotlight to prove that his story is far from over. The No. 14 shirt at Barça awaits a new hero. Will Rashford rise to the occasion?

![Maresca Defends Squad Rotation After Chelsea Held to 2-2 Draw by Qarabag Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca defended his decision to make sweeping changes to his side after a disappointing 2-2 draw with Qarabag in the Champions League. The Blues looked on course for a routine win when teenage forward Estevao opened the scoring early in Baku. But the night unravelled quickly as Qarabag hit back through Leandro Andrade and Marko Jankovic to take a shock 2-1 lead into half-time. Alejandro Garnacho spared Chelsea from an embarrassing defeat with a second-half equaliser, but the performance left Maresca facing familiar questions about his team selection. The Italian made seven changes from the side that beat Tottenham at the weekend, opting to rest several regular starters, including Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez, and Malo Gusto. “The intention [of the changes] is always because we think the plan with the players is the correct one,” Maresca said. “We started the right way, scored the goal, but then we conceded two — the first one when they had 10 players. We can avoid both goals.” Maresca admitted Chelsea’s biggest issue was their lack of sharpness in front of goal, with only four of their 16 shots on target. “In their box, we need to be more clinical,” he added. “Every game is a chance for the players to show why they are here.” It was a night to forget for defender Jorrel Hato, who misjudged a long ball to allow Qarabag’s equaliser and then conceded a penalty that Jankovic converted. Maresca refused to single him out but noted the defensive lapses were avoidable. Chelsea have now failed to win either of their first two away games in this season’s Champions League and have conceded at least twice in three of their last four matches.](https://newsaih.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot_6-11-2025_3434_x.com_-238x178.jpeg)
