Key Trump ally: Musk should be removed from the US “immediately.” Steve Bannon, the former chief strategist in the White House
Former White House chief strategist and important Trump ally Steve Bannon proposed on Thursday that tech billionaire Elon Musk be expelled from the United States.
In an interview with The New York Times over the phone, Bannon stated, “I firmly believe that he is an illegal alien and should be deported from the country immediately. Therefore, they should start a formal investigation of his immigration status.”
According to the story, he stated that Musk’s drug use and his attempt to obtain a confidential briefing on China from the Pentagon should also be looked at by the Trump administration.
His comments followed a severe escalation of Trump and Musk’s public policy dispute on Thursday, which shattered their formerly friendly relationship with a flurry of personal assaults and accusations.
Hours after the president threatened to slash billions of dollars in government contracts and subsidies for the tech billionaire’s companies, Musk advocated impeaching Trump.
Following Musk’s departure from the White House, where he oversaw the Trump administration’s government-slashing Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), his remarks and apparent political manoeuvring represent the most recent development in the escalating conflict between the once-close political friends.
Amid the tech billionaire’s campaign against the president’s hallmark tax and spending measure, Trump declared on Thursday that he is “very disappointed” with Musk.
