Horror in Ondo as Nigerian Military Helicopter Crashes, Multiple Deaths Feared

Ondo State:A loaded helicopter crashed near a naval military base, in the swampy areas of Igbokoda, Ilaje.

Reports suggest it was a military chopper, but the condition of possible survivors or the total number of passengers aboard or details of the flight have not been confirmed.

However, footage coming from Igbokoda suggests a fully burnt wreckage, implying multiple fatalities.

Some of the corpse were in military gear, and military equipments were scattered around the crash site.

Based on some witness accounts, the chopper allegedly circled a few times before it plunged as the rain increased.

While the military is yet to address the situation, Igbokoda is a coastal, oil-producing community where helicopters are commonly used for offshore and oil-related operations so some are linking the crash to it.

Rescue operations are underway, with military officers from the nearby base leading the mission, as the terrain is difficult.

Helicopters are generally safe for travel. However, since 2015, there have been five major military helicopter crashes in Nigeria: Kaduna in 2015, Borno in 2017, Niger in 2023, Port Harcourt in 2023, and now, unconfirmed, Ondo in 2026.

The Kaduna and Niger crashes were fatal, with zero survivors.
