How Perplexity AI Works
Perplexity AI is not like your regular search engine. It uses advanced language models to deliver full answers, complete with citations and context. This makes searching faster, more conversational, and easier to understand. Users no longer have to open multiple pages to find what they need.
Firefox Adds Prompt in Search Mode
Once users enter Search Mode, they’ll see a pop-up message in the browser:
“Introducing Perplexity: a new way to search in Firefox. Ask questions. Get complete, well-cited answers.”

This message shows Mozilla’s growing interest in smarter search tools, possibly challenging Google’s long-time lead in the field.
Testing with Select Users
Mozilla is testing this feature with a small group of users to see how it performs. The process is led by engineer Mandy Cheang. According to WindowsReport, the company is using an internal test recipe to adjust the tool before releasing it to everyone. The idea to use Perplexity came after many Firefox users requested it on forums like Mozilla Connect.
Reactions and Concerns
So far, some users are excited about this change, calling it a time-saver. Others, however, have raised questions about privacy and how their data might be handled. Mozilla quickly responded, saying they will stick to their core principles:
