A 65-year-old UK man is accused of sexually abusing minors and taking nude photos in Namibia.
A British man on vacation in Namibia has landed in serious trouble after he was accused of exploiting underage children for sexual purposes. The 65-year-old, identified as Douglas Robert Brook, was arrested on Sunday while visiting the Otjozondjupa region in central Namibia.
Luring Children with Sweets and Cash
According to the local police, the foreigner allegedly approached children from the indigenous San community, enticing them with sweets and money. Reports indicate that he convinced 34 children to pose nude for photos. Investigators say he took advantage of their vulnerable backgrounds during his short stay.
Shocking Evidence Found in His Camera
During the arrest, law enforcement officers reportedly seized a camera containing several disturbing images. These photographs allegedly featured both boys and girls in explicit positions. Police say at least 16 girls and 14 boys were sexually abused by the tourist.
Facing Multiple Charges in Court
Douglas Robert Brook has been slapped with 38 charges, among them rape, child abuse, and indecent assault. He was presented before the Grootfontein Magistrate Court, located north of Namibia’s capital, Windhoek, on Tuesday. Bail was denied, and the court granted the state time to gather more evidence before the next hearing scheduled for next month.
Official Reactions and Growing Outrage
Namibia’s Information Minister, Emma Theofelus, confirmed that the man remains in custody as investigations continue. The Ministry of Environment and Tourism, in a strongly-worded statement, condemned the incident as “deeply offensive” to the San community’s dignity.
“It is unacceptable for any visitor, foreign or local, to exploit or objectify indigenous communities or their children for any purpose, including photography,”

UK Embassy and Public Silence
So far, the UK embassy in Namibia has remained largely silent, only stating that they have “no information beyond what has been reported in the media.” Meanwhile, the case has sparked anger among locals and human rights activists calling for stricter protections for indigenous minors.
Namibia’s Rich Culture Tarnished by Abuse Case
The incident casts a dark shadow over Namibia’s image as a peaceful and scenic tourist destination. The country is often praised for its stunning desert views and deep cultural traditions, particularly among the San people — one of the oldest indigenous communities in the world.
