Chris Brown has been taken into custody over an alleged assault involving a bottle.
American R&B star Chris Brown was arrested in Manchester on Thursday, just days before his planned performances in the UK. The 36-year-old was picked up from the Lowry Hotel and charged over a nightclub incident that took place last year in Mayfair.
The arrest comes as Brown was preparing to headline several major shows, including at Manchester’s Co-Op Live Arena and Cardiff’s Principality Stadium this summer.
Grievous Harm Accusation Involving Bottle
The case stems from an incident at Tape nightclub in 2023, where Brown is accused of attacking music producer Abe Diaw with a bottle. The alleged act has been classified as grievous bodily harm, a serious charge under UK law.
At Manchester Magistrates’ Court, Brown was formally charged and gave his full name, Christopher Maurice Brown. When asked about his residence, he listed his current location as The Lowry Hotel.
Case Shifted to London Court
During the court proceedings, District Judge Joanne Hirst stated that the charge was too serious for the local court and transferred the matter to Southwark Crown Court in London. The next court appearance has been set for 13 June.
Brown appeared in court dressed casually in a black tracksuit and plain shirt, remaining calm as the judge outlined the legal path ahead.
Loyal Fans Stand by Him
Despite the criminal charges, a crowd of devoted fans gathered outside the courtroom to support the singer. One of them, Candy, 35, from Manchester, said she had been a fan since she was 14 and skipped her personal plans just to be present.
“I just came here to support him,” she told reporters. “I love his music and even my kids listen to him now.”
Tour Future in Limbo
Brown was expected to perform in Amsterdam on 8 June as part of his wider European tour. However, the unfolding legal situation may affect his upcoming shows. At the moment, it remains unclear whether he will be allowed to travel and continue with the scheduled events.
The unfolding case leaves both fans and organizers waiting anxiously to see how things will develop in the coming weeks.
