Police are now relying on critical CCTV clips as they try to solve the killing of Kasipul MP Charles Were. A camera on Wabera Street caught a suspicious man in a hoodie hanging around near the MP’s parked car shortly before the shooting happened.
At the time, the MP’s bodyguard had walked into a nearby M-Pesa shop to send money to the MP’s phone.
Gunman Fires at MP in Broad Daylight
After rerouting due to traffic, the MP’s team drove toward Valley Road. At a red light, a man suddenly approached the vehicle. He had gotten off a boda boda that had been trailing the car.
Without warning, he fired four bullets through the window, hitting the MP in the chest and hand. The attacker then jumped back onto the waiting motorcycle and sped off.
No Time to Save the MP’s Life
The bodyguard, who was not hurt, attempted to respond but it was too late. The MP was rushed to Nairobi Hospital where doctors confirmed he had died on arrival.
At the crime scene, detectives collected three used bullet casings, which are now being examined for clues.
Focus Shifts to Political Angle
Police have already spoken to the driver, the bodyguard, and the M-Pesa agent. They are also reviewing camera footage from nearby buildings to identify the killer.
The investigation has now extended to the MP’s home constituency in Kasipul, with detectives not ruling out political rivalry as a possible motive.
