A lady whose photo went viral on social media after she was labelled a fake AIPCA church member has finally spoken out, offering her side of the story.

The woman, believed to be in her twenties, addressed the controversy in a video that has since circulated widely online.

In the clip, an unseen man asks her whether she is aware that her image is trending on social media, a fact she confirms.

The man then inquires what she was doing in Gatundu North constituency on Sunday, prompting her to explain that she was working for Mama Simba.

“Nilikuwa wera,” she says in the video.

Mama Simba is the political nickname of Thika Town Member of Parliament Alice Ng’ang’a, who was also drawn into the controversy surrounding the Sunday church service.

The unnamed lady has been trending this week after being accused of being hired to attend an AIPCA church event in Karure, Gatundu North, Kiambu County. The service was attended by President William Ruto.

Following the event, MP Ng’ang’a and Gatundu North MP Elijah Njoroge Kururia were accused of hiring women who were not members of the AIPCA church, giving them AIPCA headwraps to pose as church members during the high-profile service.

The viral woman was among those accused of being hired for the event. Her photo, showing her wearing an AIPCA Women’s Council headwrap alongside a nose ring and silver teeth, sparked heated debate on social media.

Many users questioned her appearance, arguing that it did not align with the conservative image associated with the AIPCA church.

Addressing the matter on Thursday, MP Ng’ang’a expressed concern over the treatment of the women involved.

The Thika Town MP noted that it was unfortunate that women wearing AIPCA headwraps were being attacked over personal features such as nose rings, adding that the Christian message encourages reaching out to others to hear the word.
