Comedienne Stella Koitie, famously known as Jemutai, has officially tossed her hat into the political ring, setting her sights on the Elgeyo Marakwet Woman Representative seat in the 2027 General Election.

The beloved entertainer announced her political ambition in style through a bold Instagram poster where she’s seen smiling confidently while holding a traditional gourd, paired with the slogan, “I Understand Women Better.”

The declaration immediately sent waves across social media, with fans and critics alike scrambling to dissect her move from comedy stages to campaign trails.

Jemutai, who built her brand through stand-up shows, viral skits, and TV appearances, now hopes to transform her digital influence into real-world political muscle.

Running on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket, Jemutai joins a rapidly growing list of Kenyan entertainers preparing to battle it out at the ballot in 2027.

The line-up already includes musician KRG The Don, who’s eyeing the Nairobi Senate seat, rapper Octopizzo contesting in Kibra, and Stevo Simple Boy aiming for an MCA seat in Kibera.

Content creator Mwende Macharia and digital personality Kennedy Kabugi have also hinted at plans to step into public office.

For Jemutai, the journey ahead is steep but promising. Her supporters argue that her authentic connection with ordinary Kenyans especially women gives her an advantage over traditional politicians.

Her critics, however, question whether fame alone is enough to navigate Elgeyo Marakwet’s complex political terrain.

With just under two years before the polls, Jemutai will now focus on consolidating her grassroots base, fine-tuning her agenda, and proving she’s more than just a household name.

Her entry comes just days after hotly contested by-elections reignited political momentum nationwide, signalling that Kenya’s 2027 race is already heating up now with a comedian in the mix.
