She described the moment as astonishing, saying she had “been holding her heart in her hands,” wondering how the head of state would make the long journey in time for the conference.

“In fact, last night I watched the news and saw you in Marsabit, and I was holding my heart with my hands, wondering how you would travel over 700 kilometres to be here this morning. You must be a miracle worker,” Koome said, visibly impressed by the President’s dedication.

Her comments highlighted not only the logistical feat of Ruto’s overnight travel but also the symbolic value of his presence.

By attending the conference despite a tightly packed schedule, the President underscored the importance of dialogue and collaboration on migration and refugee issues, which are at the forefront of international legal discussions.

Koome expressed her heartfelt gratitude, noting that Ruto’s commitment to attending the event reflected a deep respect for the judiciary and the international legal community.

“Thank Your Excellency for honouring our invitation to join us this morning despite your very busy schedule as the head of state,” she said.

The Chief Justice’s admiration resonated with attendees, who appreciated the extraordinary effort by the President to participate in the conference.

Her remarks captured a rare blend of humor, awe, and genuine respect, as she emphasized that such dedication could only come from someone capable of performing near miracles.

The 14th IARMJ World Conference continues in Nairobi, bringing together judges and legal experts from across the globe to share insights on refugee and migration law, with President Ruto’s presence setting a remarkable tone for the proceedings.
