The Three Ugandan Nationals were Arrested in Danville for Performing Illegal Six-Month Abortions and Selling ARVs, Tshwane MMC Blessing Oratilwe Confirmed Investigation Into Steve Biko Hospital Link.
The suspects were found with antiretroviral drugs, antibiotics, and other prescription medicines believed to have been stolen and resold unlawfully.
Authorities say the group also performed unsafe abortions, some as advanced as six months.
City of Tshwane MMC for Health, Blessing Tshego Oratilwe, said the arrests followed a coordinated operation targeting underground medical syndicates.
She described the findings as disturbing, adding that the illegal sale of life-saving drugs and performance of unsafe abortions endangered lives, particularly those of vulnerable women seeking help.
During questioning, the suspects claimed to have links with someone working at Steve Biko Academic Hospital.
Oratilwe confirmed that the matter has been referred to an investigation team to determine whether there are internal collaborators enabling the illegal supply of medical products and abortion procedures across Tshwane.
Oratilwe said the city would take firm action if any municipal or hospital employees were found involved.
She added that this operation reinforces their commitment to protect residents’ health and safety, stating that criminal activity “knows no nationality” and that all offenders would face the full might of the law.
