Kalonzo Musyoka arrived in Kisumu ahead of his visit to Mama Ida Odinga in Bondo. He described Raila Odinga as a brother, friend, and patriot who sacrificed deeply for Kenya’s democracy.

Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF) leader Kalonzo Musyoka arrived in Kisumu on Wednesday, November 5, ahead of his planned visit to condole with Mama Ida Odinga and her family at Opoda Farm, Bondo, Siaya County.

Kalonzo said he came to offer comfort to the family of the late former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga, describing Raila as more than a political ally.

“Raila Amolo Odinga was more than a political ally, he was a brother and a friend. We honour the legacy of a patriot who gave everything for his country and his people,” he stated.

Following Raila’s passing on October 15, 2025, Kalonzo recalled his immense contribution to Kenya’s fight for democracy, including his years as a political detainee.

He noted that Raila endured torture, imprisonment, and attacks while pushing for multiparty democracy and constitutional reforms.

Kalonzo highlighted Raila’s key role in shaping the 2010 Constitution, which shifted power away from the presidency and strengthened devolution.

Kalonzo reflected on their long partnership, having served as Raila’s running mate in 2013 and 2017 under the CORD and NASA coalitions, and later as a principal in the Azimio La Umoja – One Kenya coalition.

“We learnt a lot from each other and shared a lot of pain together,” he said.

Kalonzo conveyed condolences to Mama Ida and the Odinga family, assuring them of continued support from his family and the wider political fraternity.

“Kenya has lost an exemplary leader — the President who won but was never declared and sworn into office,” he added.

Martha Karua and Women Leaders Visit Opoda Farm

Earlier on Monday, November 3, Martha Karua led a delegation of women leaders to Opoda Farm to comfort Mama Ida and the family.

The group included: Charity Ngilu Asha Bashir

Karua paid tribute to Raila’s life-long sacrifice for justice, democracy, and human dignity.

“As we mourn a comrade and a patriot, we also renew our commitment to the ideals he lived and fought for,” Karua said.

She emphasized that Raila’s legacy should inspire the ongoing pursuit of national unity, fairness, and democratic freedoms.

Raila’s passing continues to draw tributes from across the political divide, with leaders emphasizing his influence not only in Kenya but across the African continent. His legacy, they say, remains a guiding force for the country’s democratic journey.
