Outrage as Pastor Ng’ang’a Faces Backlash Over Disturbing Sermon Confession

A viral video shows Pastor Ng’ang’a confessing to taking part in a gang rape before becoming a preacher.

A video circulating on social media has sparked anger and disbelief across Kenya after Neno Evangelism Centre pastor James Ng’ang’a openly described taking part in a gang rape during a church sermon in Nairobi.

In the clip, Pastor Ng’ang’a claims that before turning to God, he and seven other men assaulted a woman, a revelation he shared while narrating his past life of crime and transformation.

What shocked many viewers even more was that some church members laughed and cheered during his confession, instead of reacting with concern or condemnation.

Kenyans online have since expressed outrage, accusing the preacher of glorifying gender-based violence and demanding that the authorities investigate the incident.

“This is not testimony, it’s a crime confession that must be followed by justice,” one user wrote on X.

Pastor Ng’ang’a, known for his controversial preaching style and history of provocative remarks, has remained silent amid the growing backlash.

This is not the first time the Neno Evangelism founder has faced criticism for insensitive or aggressive sermons, but the latest incident has drawn sharper attention due to its sexual violence context.

The viral video has reignited a wider debate about the regulation of religious institutions and the responsibility of pastors to handle testimonies with sensitivity and accountability.

Gender rights activists say such confessions, when made publicly without remorse or legal follow-up, risk normalising rape and silencing survivors.

Many are now urging the government to introduce clear guidelines on what constitutes acceptable church preaching to protect vulnerable congregants and uphold moral standards.
