A Kenyan police officer serving in Haiti was declared dead after going missing.
The National Police Service (NPS) has confirmed the death of a Kenyan officer who went missing while serving under the Kenyan-led Multinational Security Support Mission (MSSM) in Haiti.
The officer disappeared on March 25, 2025, after an ambush along the Carrefour Paye-Savien supply route in the Pont-Sonde area of Artibonite Department.
Following the incident, a search and rescue mission was immediately launched. The operation involved officers from both the MSSM and the Haitian National Police (HNP).
On Thursday, NPS announced that new information had confirmed the death of the officer. His family has since been informed of the tragic loss.
In its official statement, NPS expressed sympathy to the family and colleagues of the officer.
“The National Police Service extends its deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the fallen officer and assures them of its unwavering and continued support during this time of profound sorrow.”
NPS further stated that it remains committed to the Haiti mission, promising to continue operations under international law to help restore peace and stability.
Meanwhile, the police service confirmed that the remains of Corporal Kennedy Mutuku Nzuve, who died in a road accident on September 1, 2025, will arrive in Nairobi on September 26.
The service assured that families of officers serving in international and domestic missions will continue receiving full support during such difficult times.
