Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) will not field a candidate in Mbeere North.
The Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) has pulled out of the upcoming Mbeere North parliamentary by-election. The party will instead support the Democratic Party (DP) candidate when voters go to the ballot on November 27, 2025. Gachagua Explains Decision
Speaking at party headquarters on Wednesday, DCP leader and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua said the move was meant to strengthen ties among partners in the United Opposition.
“The move is aimed at building cordial relations and ensuring we consolidate support across regions,” Gachagua explained.
Apart from Mbeere North, DCP also declared support for the Wiper Party candidate in the Muguuni ward by-election, Machakos County. The DAP-K candidate in the Kapchai/Chwele ward, Bungoma County.
According to political observers, these endorsements signal a broader strategy to avoid splitting votes in key areas. The aim is to build a stronger front as the opposition prepares for the 2027 general elections.
The Mbeere North seat fell vacant after the courts nullified the earlier election results, setting the stage for the November by-election.
