Niger: 47 dead and more than 56,000 affected by floods
Floods following heavy rains in Niger have left 47 dead, 70 injured and more than 56,000 homeless, according to a report from the General Directorate of Civil Protection relayed by the Niger Press Agency (ANP) .
Heavy rains recorded since the start of the winter season have caused significant flooding in Niger, leaving 47 dead and more than 56,000 homeless, according to the Niger Press Agency (ANP) citing the General Directorate of Civil Protection (DGPC).
As of August 20, 2025, floods affected 7,754 households in Niger, comprising 56,730 people in 339 neighborhoods and villages in 78 municipalities spread across 46 departments or cities.
The DGPC said the deceased included 30 people who died in collapses and 17 who drowned, while 70 people were injured and 257 livestock were lost.
In order to manage the consequences of the 2024 floods, the government had set up a 12 billion CFA franc program to assist affected families throughout the country, recalls the ANP.
