George Ruto launched a luxury matatu called Mood at KICC on July 18, 2025.
Nairobi’s city centre was packed with excitement as businessman and matatu innovator George Ruto officially introduced his latest creation—Mood, a matatu that’s turning heads for all the right reasons. The launch, which took place at the iconic Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC), drew thousands of young people, matatu fans, and curious Kenyans eager to witness the unveiling of what many are calling the most luxurious PSV in Kenya to date.
Mood is not your ordinary matatu. The 25-seater has been fitted with high-end features that push the limits of what public transport in Kenya can look like. Among the standout luxuries are plush bucket seats fitted with cup holders and USB ports, a push-start engine, full air conditioning, solar-powered backup, two massive 65-inch TV screens, mood lighting, and a custom KSh 2 million sound system that fills the cabin with quality beats.
Every inch of the matatu, from the artwork to the lighting, blends street style with music and high-end class. It’s no surprise that it’s quickly being described as a “club on wheels.”
Before it hit the streets, the vehicle was blessed in a short prayer session where a pastor anointed each seat as an act of tradition among matatu operators seeking safe and profitable journeys. Immediately after, the event transformed into a full-blown street party as DJs blasted music, drawing huge crowds that followed the matatu through the streets, dancing and recording the experience.
The parade caused minor traffic disruptions, but few seemed to mind. Nairobians were simply excited to be part of the vibe.
Mood will mainly operate on the Embakasi route but might occasionally be spotted along the Rongai route as well. According to its owner, all necessary approvals and NTSA clearances are in place.
George Ruto, known for previous matatu projects, has once again raised the standard. However, Mood stands out not just for its price tag and appearance, but also for its eco-conscious integration of solar energy, a first for many in the matatu scene.
With this launch, George Ruto has not only set a new benchmark in design and comfort but also made a strong statement about where Kenya’s matatu culture is headed. For the youth and lovers of street creativity, Mood is more than a ride it’s a vibe.
