Moses Kuria has stepped down, concluding a three-year tenure within the Kenya Kwanza administration.

In a post on X on Tuesday evening, Kuria disclosed that he discussed with President Ruto, who “graciously accepted” his resignation.

“This evening, I spoke with my boss and friend, President William Ruto. The President has graciously accepted my decision to step down from government,” he stated.

Kuria, who previously served as the Member of Parliament for Gatundu South, expressed gratitude to Ruto for the various roles he held, including Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade and Industry, Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, and most recently, Senior Economic Advisor.

“I am thankful to President Ruto for the chance to serve as Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade and Industry for 11 months, in Public Service, Delivery and Performance Management for 9 months, and as Senior Economic Advisor for the last 10 months,” he remarked.

He indicated that his resignation is intended to allow him to concentrate on personal pursuits, while taking pride in his contributions to the economic initiatives of the Kenya Kwanza administration.

“As I redirect my focus to personal interests, I am proud of the work the President and I accomplished in advancing the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, which I developed with the President as part of our 2022 electoral campaign. Long live Kenya,” he added.

Kuria was appointed as a senior advisor to the Council of Economic Advisors on August 23, 2024. At that time, Felix Koskei, Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service, noted that the appointment aimed to enhance the implementation of the Bottom-Up Economic Agenda through a comprehensive governmental framework.

In recent weeks, Kuria has also voiced support for former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s return to leadership within the Jubilee Party, considering this development essential for easing the country’s escalating political tensions.

“Congratulations to my senior brother, President Uhuru Kenyatta, for regaining control of the Jubilee Party,” Kuria stated in a message on X last Thursday.

“At a time when there is a push to destabilize Kenya through heightened emotions and divisions, the Jubilee Party under your leadership plays a vital role in ensuring the nation’s safety. The future is bright.”

Recently, the High Court delivered a significant legal victory to the former President by upholding the decisions made during the Jubilee Party’s Special National Delegates Convention (SNDC) held in May 2023.

This ruling officially reinstated Uhuru as the party leader, resolving a nearly two-year leadership dispute and restructuring the party’s top hierarchy.

The judgment confirmed Saitoti Torome as the National Chairman and Jeremiah Kioni as Secretary-General, effectively sidelining the opposing faction led by EALA MP Kanini Kega and nominated MP Sabina Chege.

Chege, who had previously claimed the position of Jubilee leader, faced an additional setback when outgoing chairman Nelson Dzuya withdrew his support for her faction and submitted a consent in court acknowledging the legitimacy of the May 2023 SNDC resolutions.
