Senator Karen Nyamu has expressed deep concern over how the June 25 memorial protests were handled by the youth.
Senator Karen Nyamu has openly condemned the actions of young people during the June 25, 2025, protests, saying they turned a day of remembrance into scenes of violence and fear. According to her, the original goal — to honour victims of the 2024 anti-tax protests — was overshadowed by disorder on the streets.
She took to Instagram to share her frustrations, calling the chaos disappointing and avoidable.
Nyamu questioned the motive behind this year’s protests, suggesting there was no clear purpose guiding the demonstrators. She compared it to last year’s movement, which had a strong message and direction, unlike what she saw this time.
The senator further wondered whether the youth were being used by hidden political forces.
In her statement, Nyamu warned that some leaders could be quietly fueling unrest to serve selfish goals. She urged the youth to be careful not to become pawns in dangerous political games.
To her, the way things unfolded showed signs of deeper manipulation and lack of planning.
Concerns Over Targeted Vandalism
She also raised alarm over the property damage, especially businesses reportedly owned by Kikuyus. Nyamu said this kind of targeting was unacceptable and demanded that leaders from the community speak up.
“Where are those who claim to speak for us when our people suffer?” she asked.
