A woman was found dead after being strangled by two men in Juakali, Embakasi, Nairobi. The tragic incident, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, has sent shockwaves through the local community.

Residents reported hearing distressing screams at around 1 a.m., prompting them to rush outside. Witnesses saw two men violently attacking the woman, but the perpetrators fled into the darkness as more neighbors responded to the commotion. Unfortunately, by the time help arrived, the woman had succumbed to the brutal assault.

Her body was discovered with visible strangulation marks on her neck, and her underpants were lowered. Authorities have not yet confirmed if she was sexually assaulted, and investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the crime.

Police Investigations into the Murder

The Nairobi police, led by regional police boss George Sedah, have launched an in-depth investigation into the woman’s murder. They have not yet identified the victim, who is believed to be in her early 20s. Her body was taken to the City Mortuary, where a postmortem will be conducted to establish further details surrounding her death.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) documented the crime scene and are working with forensic experts to analyze any available evidence. They are also appealing to anyone with information about the attack to come forward and assist in the investigation.

“The suspects used their bare hands in the strangulation,” police said, emphasizing the brutality of the crime. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and authorities are exploring various leads to determine whether this was a random act of violence or a targeted murder.

Rising Cases of Femicide in Kenya

The tragic murder of the woman in Embakasi is the latest in a growing wave of femicide cases in Kenya. According to recent statistics from Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat, at least 97 femicide cases have been reported in the country over the past three months alone.

President William Ruto has acknowledged the crisis, attributing the surge in such crimes to a combination of moral decay and criminal activities. In response, he launched a special task force led by former Deputy Chief Justice Nancy Baraza to address the rising cases of gender-based violence.

“As parents and citizens, we must also deal with the moral issue. Let us not just finger-point at who should do what, but ask ourselves what we can do as individuals to stop this menace,” Ruto said during a recent church gathering in Nairobi.

Meanwhile, in Biafra, Kamkunji, police are investigating another case involving a 29-year-old Ugandan woman who was found dead in her house under mysterious circumstances. The woman, identified as Esther Nakiru, was discovered by her husband after he returned home from work on Sunday evening.

Upon arrival, he found the house locked from the inside and had to force entry, only to find Nakiru’s lifeless body lying on the floor. Authorities have not reported any visible injuries, and a postmortem examination will be conducted to establish the cause of death.

Several organizations have proposed launching nationwide awareness campaigns to educate the public on the dangers of domestic violence and the importance of community intervention.

Community Reaction and Appeal for Justice

Residents of Embakasi have expressed fear and anger following the brutal murder. Many are calling on the police to intensify patrols in the area and ensure that those responsible for the heinous act are brought to justice.
