Representing Zamfara North Senatorial District, the Nigerian Senate has refuted claims that a man seen on tape kissing a woman within an office is Senator Sahabi Alhaji Yau.
The denial followed the publication of a viral video on Tuesday showing a man allegedly to be Senator Yau courting and kissing an unidentified woman in what was claimed to be an office within the National Assembly compound in Abuja.
Widespread responses on social media followed the video, with many analysts claiming that the person shown was Senator Yau.
Senator Yemi Adaramodu, the Senate’s spokesman and chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, has distanced the National Assembly and Senator Yau from the event, nevertheless.
Denying that the individual in the video is a senator, Adaramodu said “That is not the image of any senator serving in the Nigerian Senate right now. That footage first appeared online four or five years ago.
Before I arrived to the Senate, I had seen it. I watched that video even while serving in the House of Representatives.
“And looking at the surroundings, that room is not within the Senate. You can tour the Senate to view the offices. Not one office with such a style of architecture exists. Visit us at our offices.
I will let you view about ten offices. No office architecture arrangement like that exists. There isn’t a single Senate building that resembles it.
And nothing else resembles that. You can visit the Senate; I will provide you with access. I’ve come to the conclusion that the tape doesn’t show a senator and that the event did not take place in the Senate. That is not one of our senators, nor is it the Senate.
The Senate does not have a venue like that. Furthermore, that image does not represent any senator we know.
