Mohamed Salah named FWA Men’s Player of the Year for the third time.

Mohamed Salah has once again etched his name in the history books after being named the Football Writers’ Association (FWA) Player of the Year for a third time. The Liverpool winger’s superb form played a major role in the club’s title-winning campaign, guiding them to their 20th top-flight crown—matching Manchester United’s record.

A Season Full of Goals, Assists, and Records

With 28 goals and 18 assists in the Premier League, Salah led from the front and delivered consistently under Arne Slot’s leadership. His contribution set a new benchmark, with the Egyptian becoming the player with the highest goal involvements ever recorded in a 38-game Premier League season.

Near-Unanimous Support from Football Writers

Salah’s impact on the pitch was widely recognized, with nearly 90% of FWA members voting for him. This impressive figure marks the biggest margin of victory for any player this century. Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk finished second in the voting, while Alexander Isak of Newcastle came third and Arsenal’s Declan Rice followed in fourth.

Matching Legends and Extending His Legacy

This latest accolade means Salah now shares the record for most FWA wins with Arsenal legend Thierry Henry, having also claimed the award in the 2017-18 and 2021-22 seasons. The 32-year-old recently put an end to speculation about his future by signing a new two-year contract that will keep him at Anfield until 2027.

“Salah’s loyalty and performance give Liverpool a strong edge as they chase a record 21st league title next season,” club insiders noted.

Arsenal’s Russo Shines in Women’s Category

In the women’s category, Arsenal forward Alessia Russo took the top spot this year. She outperformed Manchester City’s Khadija Shaw, who was the 2023 winner. Russo becomes only the second player from Arsenal to earn the prestigious FWA women’s title.
