Premier League Wins Key Ruling as Leicester Faces Further Financial Probe

Tribunal ruled the Premier League cannot punish Leicester for 2022–23 rule breaches due to their relegation.

A tribunal has ruled that the Premier League cannot sanction Leicester City over profit and sustainability breaches from the 2022–23 season. The main reason behind this decision is that the club was relegated from the Premier League at the end of that campaign, and therefore no longer fell under its authority for that specific period.

EPL Allowed to Investigate EFL Rule Breach

While Leicester escaped punishment for their financial dealings during their final Premier League season, the tribunal gave a green light for an investigation into their 2023–24 actions under the EFL framework. This keeps the club under scrutiny for more recent activities, even though they’re now in the second tier.

Two More Allegations Surface

The independent panel is also set to examine two fresh claims involving Leicester. First, the club allegedly failed to submit its accounts to the Premier League by the 31st of December, 2024. Second, they are accused of not fully cooperating with the league’s inquiries — a move that could result in serious consequences if proven.

Leicester Responds to the Allegations

In a statement, Leicester acknowledged the development and said they will now work closely with the Premier League. The club noted that it intends to fully cooperate with the process, now that the league’s authority over the financial year 2024 has been officially confirmed.

Relegated Again, But Under Pressure

Leicester has once again dropped into the Championship — their second relegation in just three years. As they rebuild on the pitch, the club must now also focus on clearing its name off the pitch, as financial scrutiny from the top division continues.
