Kenyan artist Bahati has spoken out about a hurtful experience that nearly ended his relationship with his now-wife, Diana Marua. In a recent appearance on the Mic Cheque Podcast, the musician shared how his own sister once tried to wreck their relationship using lies and deception.
Bahati claims the incident took place during the early stages of their dating journey. According to him, not only did his sister steal money from him, but she also involved a fake prophet to wrongly accuse Diana of the theft.
Money Goes Missing During a Trip
Bahati recalled that he had stored a large amount of money in a drawer inside his bedroom before traveling with Diana to perform in Narok. When the couple returned the next day, the money had disappeared without a trace.
“I had kept the money in the bedroom drawer. Diana and I travelled for a show in Narok. When we got back the next day, the money was missing. But I already had an idea who took it,” he narrated.
Fake Prophet Brought into the Picture
To make matters worse, a man claiming to be a prophet later reached out to Bahati with a disturbing message. The so-called prophet told him that Diana was behind the missing money, insisting it was a vision from God.
Bahati, however, wasn’t convinced. He immediately suspected that his sister was behind the scheme, trying to damage his relationship by framing Diana through spiritual manipulation.
“The prophet claimed Diana was a thief. That she had stolen the money. But I knew it wasn’t true. If Diana hadn’t been with me during the trip, I may have believed him,” Bahati said.
Spiritual Wisdom Saved His Relationship
Bahati credited his spiritual sensitivity for helping him see through the lies. He said that if he hadn’t been aware and grounded in his faith, the entire setup could have led to a breakup with Diana.
“My sister used a prophet to try and break us up. But because of my faith and ability to discern, I was able to see the truth,” he explained.
Still Hurting from the Betrayal
Though time has passed since the incident, Bahati admitted that the pain still lingers. What hurt him the most, he says, was hearing his sister claim that God had revealed Diana to be a thief.
“She went as far as saying, ‘God showed me you live with a thief.’ That’s something I’ve never been able to forget or fully forgive,” Bahati confessed.
No Apology, But Support Continues
Despite never receiving an apology, Bahati says he still helps his sister when she reaches out in need. However, he admitted that it is emotionally difficult for him, especially since she has never admitted to the wrongdoing.
“I still send her money when she asks. But she has never said sorry. That makes it tough,” he added.
Bahati’s story shows the complex realities that come with fame, family, and love. Even through betrayal and deep pain, he chose to protect his relationship and move forward, though the scars remain. His strength lies not just in his music, but in his decision to rise above the lies and stay committed to his truth.
