Karen Nyamu Under Fire for Snapchat Scandal at Raila Funeral
Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu has once again found herself at the centre of controversy, after being caught scrolling through Snapchat during the funeral of Raila Odinga.
A grainy photo taken by a mourner sitting behind her shows the senator’s phone raised, the glowing screen unmistakably displaying the familiar interface of the Snapchat app.
The image, which quickly made rounds on social media, sparked outrage among Kenyans who accused the outspoken lawmaker of disrespect during the somber state event.
“Even at Baba’s funeral, she can’t put her phone down?” one user fumed.
Another quipped, “Snapchatting grief now? Truly, digital Kenya has gone too far.” Nyamu, known for her unfiltered online presence, has not yet responded to the backlash.
But this latest episode adds to a long list of public dramas that keep her name trending for all the wrong reasons.
While leaders, dignitaries and global figures paid their final respects to Raila Odinga, Nyamu’s apparent focus on filters rather than farewell messages left many wondering whether decorum has become just another casualty of the social media age.
