Julius Malema Denied UK Visa: British authorities have reportedly denied Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema a visa to attend the Cambridge Conference this weekend.
Malema claims this decision is an attempt to stifle dissenting political voices.
The conference, which will take place at Cambridge University, aims to foster dialogue on various pressing issues, including Western imperialism—a topic closely aligned with Malema’s political stance.
He took to the social media platform X to express his outrage, stating, “The British authorities have denied me a visa to London for the Cambridge Conference this weekend, providing no substantial justification.
It is clear to me that this is an attempt to silence a dissenting political perspective.”
Malema noted that the denial came just hours before his scheduled flight from OR Tambo International Airport, drawing widespread condemnation.
The EFF released a statement denouncing the actions of the British High Commission, asserting that the bureaucratic delays and the timing of the visa rejection amount to a deliberate effort to prevent Malema from engaging in discussions with students and scholars at one of the world’s leading universities.
The statement read, “In what can only be described as an administratively orchestrated ban on the President of the EFF, the British High Commission has actively delayed the processing and approval of the visa application.
This letter of regret was sent today, just as the President was set to depart for the UK after receiving confirmation that the visa would be processed this afternoon.”
Furthermore, the EFF emphasized that the denial of Malema’s visa exemplifies how bureaucratic processes can be weaponized against political dissent.
They are determined to continue their campaign against what they term “Western imperialism.” The party’s leaders believe that this incident reflects a broader attempt to silence voices that challenge prevailing narratives in global politics.
