Teacher Suspended Over Sexual Abuse Allegations at Alliance Girls Mukhtasari: TSC suspends Peter Albert Ayiro for 30 days over sexual abuse claims Allegations include grooming students under guise of mentorship Government promises swift justice and full investigations Protests staged by former students demanding accountability FIDA-Kenya demands systemic reforms in education sector Teacher Accused of Abusing Students in the Name of Religion The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has suspended Peter Albert Ayiro, a teacher at Alliance Girls High School, over shocking allegations of sexual abuse involving female students. The suspension, effective from July 15, 2025, will last 30 days as investigations continue. Ayiro, who was also the Christian Union patron at the school, is accused of using his role to groom and manipulate students—inviting some to his school residence under the pretext of mentorship. Government: “Zero Tolerance for Teacher Misconduct” Principal Secretary for Basic Education Julius Bitok confirmed the suspension and said law enforcement is working closely with TSC to pursue Ayiro’s arrest. “The government maintains a zero-tolerance policy on any form of inappropriate teacher‑student relationships,” said PS Bitok. “Those found culpable will face the full force of the law.” Protest, Outrage, and Demands for Justice The exposé by Africa Uncensored, featuring testimonies from victims, sparked national outrage. The investigation revealed repeated abuse hidden behind religious mentoring. On July 10, former students staged a peaceful protest outside the school gates. They demanded Ayiro’s immediate suspension and a safer environment for students. FIDA-Kenya, a prominent legal advocacy group, condemned the incident and demanded accountability from the school’s administration. “We demand systemic reforms in Kenya’s education sector to prevent future occurrences of sexual and gender-based violence,” said FIDA in a public statement. Push for School Reforms Across Kenya FIDA also called for regular audits, proper reporting systems, and teacher training to safeguard learners from future abuse. This case adds to a disturbing trend of sexual abuse allegations in Kenyan schools, reinforcing the urgent need for stricter enforcement of education policies and student protection mechanisms.
