Police Constable Ramadhan Khamisi Matanka was fatally attacked while on duty. Assailant, 56-year-old Kinyuka Kinyumi, used a bow and arrow.

A General Service Unit (GSU) officer, Constable Ramadhan Khamisi Matanka, was fatally speared by a man armed with a bow and arrow while on duty along Dennis Pritt Road in Nairobi.

According to a police report, the attacker, identified as Kinyuka Kinyumi, aged 56, struck at around 8:15 a.m. as officers were conducting routine security checks on vehicles entering the premises.

The suspect allegedly drew his bow and fired at the officer, hitting him in the left side of the chest. Constable Matanka sustained critical injuries and was immediately rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital, where he died while receiving emergency treatment.

Witnesses reported that the suspect approached the security gate disguised as a street dweller carrying a sack. He reportedly hid behind a flower bed before launching the deadly attack.

Other officers on duty quickly subdued and arrested the suspect, preventing further harm. Police say the man claimed that he had been “sent by Satan” to carry out the assault.

Senior officers, including Kilimani Police Commander Patricia Yegon and DCI boss Hussein Mahat, visited the scene and the hospital. Authorities have since opened investigations to establish the suspect’s motive and mental state.

Security around the President of Kenya is managed through a multi-agency protection system involving elite units and national security bodies. The G-Company, a specialized Presidential Guard sub-unit within the GSU, protects State Houses and official residences. The Recce Squad, also under the GSU, plays a key role in safeguarding the President, First Family, and sensitive installations. The Presidential Escort Unit (PEU) manages the President’s movement and close protection, often working in coordination with GSU officers. The National Intelligence Service (NIS) and regular police provide intelligence and travel security support. During high-risk events, Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) personnel and bomb disposal experts are deployed to ensure maximum security.
