Former CS Fred Matiang’i breaks his 2025 silence with a public rally in Gusii

All regional leaders—from Governors Arati and Nyaribo to Senators Onyonka and Omogeni—are set to attend the kisii tour.

The one-day tour will hit Kijauri, Keroka, Keumbu, Kisii Town and Nyamira

After months away from the political limelight, former Interior CS Dr. Fred Okeng’o Matiang’i will make his first in-person appearance of 2025 on Friday, May 2. The Team Matiang’i Secretariat announced that the “meet-the-people tour” in the Gusii region marks his re-entry into public engagements following his assignment with the World Bank.

Regional Heavyweights Unite

Organisers say the event will attract all elected leaders from Gusii, including: Kisii Governor Simba Arati, Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo, Senators Momoima Onyonka and Okong’o Omogeni, County MPs and MCAs from across the sub-county

Their presence highlights a unified regional front behind Matiang’i’s outreach drive.

Five Key Stopovers

Matiang’i’s convoy will pause at: Kijauri – opening address to local chiefs and opinion leaders. Keroka – residents’ Q&A session. Keumbu – youth and women’s groups dialogue. Kisii Town – main rally at the municipal grounds. Nyamira – final courtesy visit at the Governor’s office

Each stop blends informal “listening posts” with formal courtesy calls to the county executives.

Grassroots Engagement at Its Core

“The visit underscores Dr. Matiang’i’s commitment to listening and reconnecting with the grassroots,” reads the secretariat’s statement. By combining town-hall chat with official protocol, the tour aims to gather feedback on local challenges—ranging from service delivery to infrastructure needs.

Just days before his return, Matiang’i joined forces with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who welcomed him into a broader political team that includes Justin Muturi and Mithika Linturi. Their online message hailed this coalition as “on the right side of history,” suggesting Matiang’i’s tour could also lay groundwork for future collaborations beyond Gusii.

As Matiang’i reconnects with his roots, all eyes will be on how this renewed public engagement shapes his role in national politics. Will this Gusii tour spark a full-blown comeback? If the packed itinerary and heavyweights in tow are anything to go by, Matiang’i’s 2025 chapter is poised for a high-profile start.
