Floyd Shivambu Initiates New Political Party

Floyd Shivambu, the former secretary-general of the MK party, has announced the initiation of efforts to establish a new political party in light of accusations that he sought to depose Jacob Zuma from his position as MKP leader.

During a press conference held at the Mhulu Luxury Boutique Hotel in Midrand on Thursday, Shivambu mentioned that over the coming months, they would engage with traditional leaders, religious figures, and the general public regarding the party’s formation.

“We aim to gather insights from everyday South Africans, including members of various churches such as the Zion Christian Church, the Nazareth Baptist Church, and the IPCC, alongside notable individuals like Michael Nkuna, Dr. Irvin Khoza, Patrice Motsepe, and Kaizer Motaung, to determine the rationale for creating a new political party,” he stated.

He further queried, “If there is support, what principles should this party uphold, and how will it stand apart from existing political entities?”

Nevertheless, Shivambu emphasized that he has no intention of departing from MKP, dismissing inquiries about holding dual memberships.

“I have not resigned from uMkhonto weSizwe, nor will I ever resign from it,” he affirmed, reiterating that aligning with Zuma’s party was a decision he stands by.

He elaborated that the upcoming consultations will address the questions of the party’s funding and its structure.

According to Shivambu, the envisioned party will not serve as a personal endeavor, nor will it operate as a clique or cult. He mentioned that details regarding the leadership responsible for overseeing the consultations would be revealed soon.

During the press conference, Shivambu made a surprising declaration, alleging that he had been accused of conspiring to overthrow Zuma and seize control.

He criticized what he labeled a “strange and fabricated intelligence report,” claiming it accused him of possessing “supernatural powers” that could make individuals disappear—allegations he deemed ridiculous and politically charged.

“There is nothing I do in private that I wouldn’t publicly acknowledge,” Shivambu asserted boldly.

His provocative remarks arise amidst significant internal conflicts within the MK Party.
