Goodison Park will no longer be demolished as earlier planned.
As Everton prepare for their final men’s Premier League match at Goodison Park this Sunday against Southampton, the club has revealed it will not demolish the iconic 133-year-old stadium. Instead, Goodison will become the permanent home of Everton’s women’s team starting next season.
This decision comes as Everton move the men’s team to their new 53,000-seater stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, a major step in the club’s future development.
Stadium Set for Adjustments to Suit Women’s Matches
Everton have confirmed that the women’s team, which currently hosts matches at Walton Hall Park with an average attendance of just over 2,000, will now play at Goodison. The club plans to make the stadium feel smaller and more personal, given its current full capacity of 39,572.
To achieve this, certain upper sections – including the Upper Bullens Road Stand, the top of the Main Stand, and parts of the Howard Kendall Gwladys Street End – will not be open to the public. Instead, these areas will be covered in branding for the women’s team.
Fans Offered a Piece of History Through Seat Purchase
Supporters who held season tickets and hospitality packages during the 2024-25 season have been given a unique opportunity: the chance to buy their actual seats after the men’s final match at Goodison.
This plan will continue as intended. For areas where fans buy their seats, Everton will install new replacements and will adjust seating rows to provide more space during women’s games.
New Ownership Shelves Demolition Plans and Redevelopment
Under previous club owner Farhad Moshiri, Everton had announced a massive £82 million redevelopment project for the Goodison site. The post-demolition plan included building homes, a care facility, retail shops, a park, and preserving the centre circle where Everton legend Dixie Dean’s ashes were scattered.
However, after The Friedkin Group took control of the club in December, a new feasibility study was launched. The result? A new decision to keep the stadium in use, redirecting its purpose toward supporting the women’s team and community activities.
