Catholic nun caught on video assaulting fellow sister in heated moment

A video has captured the moment a Franciscan nun slapped and hurled insults at a fellow sister during a heated confrontation.

“Unaona hujafanya kitu? You are a small thing lakini vitu unanifanyia hapa unaona kama ni nini?” the visibly furious nun demanded.

In a frail voice, the other sister responded, “Why are you beating me? Why are you beating me in front of workers?”

Moments later, the angry nun slapped her, doubling down as the situation escalated.

The exact cause of the altercation remains unclear, though both women are indeed members of the Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph Community.

From the video, the aggressive nun can be heard insisting that the sister would not be allowed back without “the oil.”

“Huyu mtoto ni mjinga sana. Can you go!” she shouted amid another slap.

“Piga simu Asumbi! Mjinga wewe,” she dared her to report before storming off.

The video has since gone viral, sparking widespread outrage over what many perceive as unacceptable behaviour within a religious order.

On Facebook, Joyce Muchai voiced her dismay.

“This is very inhuman. Who is she to beat a fellow sister? This is what happens behind the closed doors that we can’t see. This needs to be addressed. And very fast. She is very arrogant. Truth be told. Don’t beat others cos you are senior and you have authority. This is someone’s child or sister. This is unacceptable even in God’s eyes. This nun needs help; if not, she needs to leave the congregation. Let’s be human and show love to others. This is not a way to correct others,” she said.

Maurice Oyomo echoed the sentiment, stating, “That is not the best way of solving issues; arrogance and bragging take the day, not healthy at all.”

In response, the congregation stated its Superior General, Sr Mary Ochieng’, expressing regret and assuring the public that the matter is being dealt with internally.

“This action is a personal failing and does not represent the values of the Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph. We deeply regret the harm caused to the Sister involved, as well as the scandal and pain this incident has caused to our Congregation, the Church, and the public,” the statement read.
