Cameroon and Chad Open New Bridge: A new bridge has been inaugurated, linking the Cameroonian town of Yagoua with Bongor in Chad.
This project also includes the construction of 14.2 kilometers (8.8 miles) of access roads: 6.8 kilometers in Cameroon and 7.4 kilometers in Chad.
The aim is to facilitate customs operations and expedite the movement of goods and people across the border.
The opening ceremony was officiated by Cameroon’s Prime Minister, Joseph Dion Ngute, and Chad’s Prime Minister, Allamaye Halina, who described the project as a symbol of strengthened cooperation between the two nations.
In Yagoua, a new roundabout has been constructed to improve traffic circulation in the area.
The Yagoua-Bongor bridge and the associated roadworks were completed by a consortium consisting of Razel Cameroun, Razel-Bec, and Sotcocog, who also managed the final technical adjustments before the bridge’s opening.
This new infrastructure is expected to significantly improve the movement of people and goods between the two countries, thereby enhancing cross-border trade and streamlining customs procedures. It aligns with the goals of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) by improving regional connectivity and promoting greater economic integration across the continent.
The project was jointly financed by the European Union, the African Development Bank Group, and the governments of Cameroon and Chad. The Logone bridge is part of the Africa-EU Global Gateway flagship projects, which aim to connect African regions through sustainable transport corridors that leverage the potential of the AfCFTA.
The inauguration of the bridge coincides with the 50th anniversary of cooperation between the EU and Cameroon (1975–2025), highlighting decades of strong partnership and a shared commitment to economic development.
