Brazilian trafficker busted: On Friday morning, a 39-year-old narcotics trafficker was taken into custody upon arrival at the OR Tambo International Airport from São Paulo.

When the Brazilian national was stopped by authorities at the airport, he was on his way to Benin after landing from São Paulo at 9:00.

During a body search, they dragged him aside and discovered cocaine wrapped around his legs.

On a drug trafficking charge, the Kempton Park Magistrates Court has scheduled his appearance.

The SAPS announced that they are stepping up their efforts to combat the illegal drug trade in the meantime.

The successes achieved between January 2025 and March 2025 are listed below:

Drug traffickers who are still being caught at the OR Tambo International Airport are among the 23,306 people who were detained for drug possession.

The majority of these drug traffickers enter the nation via Brazil, and it is discovered that they have ingested these substances.

Over 20 drug traffickers have been apprehended by police at ports of entry in the past six months thanks to focused intelligence operations.

➢ The police dismantled a clandestine drug laboratory in Standerton, Mpumalanga, leading to the arrest of 3471 suspects for drug peddling, including three South Africans and six Mozambicans.

R3 million in cash was discovered in the boot of a Mercedes-Benz, while drugs, high-performance cars, and machinery totalling R27 million were seized during this investigation.

The same time frame saw the closure of a covert drug lab in Gauteng’s Westonaria. This operation resulted in the arrest of two suspects.

➢ A drug disposal operation in the Western Cape on March 7, 2025, destroyed 340 million rand worth of drugs.

Drugs recovered from various operations are regularly destroyed by the SAPS to guarantee that they are permanently removed from circulation; over the last three years, R5.2 billion worth of drugs have been destroyed.
