Autopsy shows the GSU officer died from internal bleeding after being shot with an arrow. Officer Ramadhan Mattanka was attacked near State House Gate D, Nairobi.
A post-mortem examination has revealed that General Service Unit (GSU) officer Ramadhan Mattanka died from severe internal injuries after being struck by an arrow during an attack near State House, Nairobi.
According to Vocal Africa CEO Hussein Khalid, the autopsy showed the arrow pierced the left side of the officer’s chest, damaging vital organs.
“He was shot by an arrow which went through the left 7th and 8th rib, punctured the left lung, and also the heart. He died due to excessive bleeding,” Khalid said on Tuesday, October 14.
Khalid urged the government to act swiftly to protect police officers carrying out their duties, adding that the loss of Constable Mattanka underscores the risks officers face daily.
“As we call for justice for Ramadhan, we urge the state to ensure police are safe while on duty,” he said.
The officer will be laid to rest today in Kajiado County.
In a statement issued earlier, the National Police Service (NPS) said the attack happened around 8:10 a.m. near State House Gate D, when a man armed with a bow and arrows advanced toward the officers on duty.
“A 56-year-old man, armed with a bow and arrows, rapidly approached police officers stationed in the area. Despite being challenged to surrender, the suspect advanced on Police Constable Ramadhan Mattanka and shot him in the left ribs with an arrow,” the NPS said.
The officers subdued and arrested the assailant before rushing their colleague to Kenyatta National Hospital, where he later died while receiving treatment.
The NPS condemned the attack, commending the officers who intervened swiftly and prevented further harm.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the late Constable Ramadhan Mattanka, who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty. The Service stands in solidarity with them during this difficult time,” the statement concluded.
Police said investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the attack.
