Michail Antonio made a late comeback for Jamaica in the Gold Cup clash.

Jamaican international Michail Antonio stepped onto the field for the first time in over six months, playing in the final minutes of a Gold Cup group stage match against Guatemala in California. The Reggae Boyz lost 1-0, but his brief appearance meant much more.

In December, Antonio’s world took a turn after his Ferrari veered off-road and crashed into a tree in Epping Forest. The wreck left him with a broken femur, fractured into four parts. He underwent surgery and spent three weeks in the hospital recovering.

Despite his return to international football, the 35-year-old has not featured again for his club, West Ham United. His contract expired on 30 June, and so far, there’s been no word on whether he’ll stay or move on.

West Ham has described Antonio’s case as “unique” and stressed they’re focusing more on his full recovery than rushing any contract decisions. The club says it will only discuss his future when the “right time” comes.

A Club Legend in His Own Right

Antonio joined the Hammers back in 2015 from Nottingham Forest. Since then, he has become a key part of their history, holding the record as West Ham’s top scorer in the Premier League with 68 goals in 268 appearances.
