Tragic Accident Claims Angie Stone’s Life

Walter Millsap, president of Conjunction Entertainment, revealed in a statement that the accident occurred around 4 a.m. while Stone was traveling back to Atlanta from Alabama. Her Sprinter van reportedly flipped over and was subsequently hit by a big rig. While others in the vehicle survived, Stone succumbed to her injuries.

Stone had just performed at the Mardi Gras Association’s Grand Marshal’s Ball in Mobile, Alabama, on February 28.

Born Angela Laverne Brown on December 18, 1961, in Columbia, South Carolina, Stone rose to fame in the late ’70s as a founding member of the female rap trio The Sequence, best known for their hit single “Funk You Up,” which reached No. 15 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart in 1980.

As a solo artist, Stone released multiple successful albums, with five of them reaching the top 10 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Her 2007 album, The Art of Love & War, peaked at No. 1, while Dream (2015) reached No. 3, and Mahogany Soul (2001) and Stone Love (2004) secured No. 4 spots. Her debut solo album, Black Diamond (2000), also made waves, reaching No. 9.
