Peter Oyuka, 84, from Makale village, returned home after a 47-year absence. He was shocked to learn that his three wives had remarried.
After being away for nearly half a century, Peter Oyuka, an 84-year-old man from Makale village, returned home to a heartbreaking discovery: all three wives had remarried.
Oyuka had vanished in 1974 at the age of 37, leaving behind his young family. When he finally came back in 2025, he expected a warm reunion but was instead met with shock and disappointment.
Speaking to local reporters, Mzee Oyuka expressed deep sadness, saying he believed his wives would still recognise him and welcome him back.
“I had hoped they would wait for me or at least make time for me after my return,” he said, visibly emotional.
Ironically, Oyuka himself admitted to having built a new life in Tanzania, where he even fathered a child during his long absence. Despite that, he still hoped his original wives would remain loyal.
While in Tanzania, Oyuka worked and lived a quiet life for decades. It was only recently that he decided to return home to reconnect with his family and village.
However, his comeback turned into a moment of sorrow as he realised life had moved on without him.
Oyuka’s story has sparked a wave of reactions across social media.
Some sympathised with his pain, saying the reunion must have been difficult at his age. Others found humour in his expectations, pointing out that 47 years is nearly a lifetime, long enough for his wives to start over.
The incident has also ignited debates about loyalty, patience, and the realities of love, with many arguing that both men and women have the right to rebuild their lives when a partner disappears for decades.
For Mzee Oyuka, his story stands as a reflection of how much can change with time.
While he returned home full of hope, what he found instead was a painful reminder that life never stops, even when someone you love is gone.
