Africa Day, Turkey commemorates its 20th anniversary.

In honor of Africa Day, Turkey reaffirmed its close relationship with the African Union on Sunday, noting 20 years of collaboration.

“The Turkish Foreign Ministry announced on X that this year marks the 20th anniversary of Turkey’s observer status at the African Union.”

The ministry further emphasised that the African Union considers Turkey to be one of its strategic partners.

“We are getting ready for the IV. Türkiye-Africa Partnership Summit, which is scheduled for 2026,” the statement stated.

In addition, the ministry wished everyone a “Happy #AfricaDay!”

In a separate statement posted on its website later Sunday, the ministry congratulated African countries on Africa Day.

“Africa Day symbolises the African peoples’ desire for a united continent in peace, stability, and prosperity, as well as their will to secure a legitimate position in the global system,” the statement read.

“Turkey will remain a trustworthy and genuine partner of African nations in their endeavours to accomplish these objectives,” the statement stated.

In the statement, Türkiye reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with African countries and pursuing deeper engagement with Africa on the foundation of “equal partnership, mutual trust, and comprehensive cooperation.”

“Africa and Turkey will persist in their collaboration toward a shared future characterized by prosperity, peace, and stability,” the ministry stated.

The 62nd anniversary of the African Union’s founding is commemorated on Africa Day.
