“Umearibu Chama Yetu” Drama as ODM Leader Robert Alai Attacks Oburu Odinga Over Edwin Sifuna Endorsement

Fresh internal divisions within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) have erupted publicly after Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai launched a sharp attack on Oburu Odinga following his endorsement of ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna.

The political fallout has sparked intense debate among ODM supporters, exposing growing ideological and leadership tensions within the party.

Oburu Odinga Praises Edwin Sifuna, Calls for Party Unity

The dispute began after a widely shared screenshot showed Oburu Odinga publicly praising Edwin Sifuna, describing him as a “sober and principled voice” who represents the democratic values of Orange Democratic Movement.

In the statement dated January 7, 2026, Oburu sought to downplay internal disagreements, insisting that ODM remains united despite differing opinions among its leaders.

“We are one. We are united as the ODM Party. Differences of opinion do not mean division,” Oburu stated after meeting Sifuna.

Robert Alai Fires Back: “ODM Is Being Destroyed From Within”

However, Robert Alai responded angrily, accusing Oburu of being misled and warning that ODM is on a dangerous path.

In a strongly worded reaction, Alai claimed that some senior figures had already “decided to go” and were actively weakening the party from within.

“Seems like our party leader is being fooled by the likes of Sifuna. This is going to weaken and destroy ODM,” Alai wrote.

His remarks, interpreted by many as a direct challenge to ODM’s current leadership direction, quickly went viral and ignited heated reactions online.

ODM Supporters React as Internal Conflicts Continues

The public exchange has laid bare deepening divisions within ODM, particularly between party leadership and sections of grassroots and urban political leaders.

While Oburu’s remarks portray Sifuna as a stabilising figure capable of holding the party together, Alai’s response reflects growing mistrust, frustration, and strategic disagreements within the movement.

Analysts Warn of Growing Leadership Crisis in ODM

Political analysts say the public fallout highlights ODM’s long-standing struggle to balance internal democracy, succession politics, and party unity.

With Kenya’s political landscape rapidly evolving, the open confrontation raises fresh questions about whether ODM can contain its internal disputes or whether more high-profile clashes are yet to unfold in public view.
