National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has revealed details of his last meeting with former Lugari MP, Cyrus Jirongo, who tragically died in a road accident near Karai, close to Naivasha.
During a visit to Jirongo’s home in Lumakanda on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, Wetang’ula recounted that he received a call from Jirongo on December 9 while he was in Uganda. Jirongo expressed a desire to meet him upon his return.
The two met on December 12 at Karen Oasis Resort, where they spent time together. Wetang’ula said the meeting was arranged after Jirongo wanted to console him for the loss of his mother, Anne Namaemba, whom Jirongo had not been able to attend her burial.

Jirongo had also promised to attend the funeral of Wetang’ula’s brother, James Mukwana, in Tuuti Marakaru, Bungoma County, on December 18.
The Speaker said they parted ways at around 9:00 p.m., expecting to meet again during the funeral. However, the following day, Wetang’ula received the shocking news of Jirongo’s death.

Wetang’ula described his relationship with Jirongo as long-standing, dating back to 1988. He said they had remained close friends and collaborators over the years.
Wetang’ula noted that Jirongo had made a significant impact in his life, including contributing to initiatives like supporting children’s education.
