Safaricom has launched a specialized KES 800 monthly WiFi package for residents within the Affordable Housing Programme (AHP). The announcement was made by CEO Peter Ndegwa during the handover of over 4,500 units at New Mukuru Estate Phase II in Nairobi.

The project, backed by President William Ruto, aims to treat high-speed internet as a basic utility, ensuring that low-income households are not left behind in Kenya’s digital economy.

The KES 800 Plan: What You Need to Know

This new package is a massive price cut from Safaricom’s standard Home Fibre plans, which typically start at KES 2,999.

To achieve this, Safaricom partnered with Chinese tech giant Huawei to deploy a new type of “quick-install” fiber technology that reduces the cost of infrastructure.

Who is eligible for the KES 800 package?

  •  Registered Homeowners: Currently, the package is exclusive to residents of government-sanctioned Affordable Housing projects like Mukuru Phase II.
  •  Pre-installed Units: Only houses with pre-installed “internet-ready” boxes can activate this specific plan.
  •  Future Rollout: Plans are underway to expand this model to upcoming AHP sites in Kibera, Ruiru, and Homa Bay.

Coming in January 2026: Daily and Weekly “Sachets”

While the monthly plan is available now, Peter Ndegwa revealed that Safaricom will introduce even more flexible “sachet-style” packages starting January 2026.

These will include:

  •  Hourly WiFi Tokens: For those who only need the internet for quick tasks.
  •  Weekly Subscriptions: Catering to residents with fluctuating weekly budgets.
  •  Daily Passes: Aimed at visitors or occasional users within the estates.

How to Activate Your Connection

Residents moving into the new units do not need to wait for a technician. The infrastructure is already “plug-and-play.”

  • Check your wall box: Ensure the fiber terminal point is active.
  •  Dial 400#: Use your registered Safaricom line to select the “Affordable Housing” option.
  •  Pay via M-Pesa: Once the KES 800 payment is processed, the WiFi will be activated instantly.
