The Kikuyu music scene is once again in mourning as popular gospel musician Peter Njeru Thiga has been diagnosed with intestinal cancer.

The news comes just one month and three days after the death of Betty Bayo, a revered Kikuyu gospel singer who succumbed to blood cancer.

Peter Njeru, who is also a minister of the gospel, shared the diagnosis himself during a Facebook livestream on Saturday, December 13, 2025. He was joined by his wife, Njambi, and fellow Kigooco singer Karangu Muraya.

During the livestream, Karangu urged fans and the public to keep Peter in their prayers. He also expressed gratitude to the artists who have shown support, including Shiru Wa GP, Loise Kim, Ben Githae, and Martin Wa Janet.

Karangu noted that many people were unaware of Peter’s illness until the announcement. “Let us pray for Njeru, and thank you to all the artistes who have supported him. We believe God will intervene in this case,” he said.

Peter Njeru has long been a respected figure in the Kikuyu gospel scene. His music, often centered on hope and faith, has inspired many across Kenya and beyond.

Fans and fellow musicians have expressed shock and sadness over the news, reflecting the deep connections he has built through his work.

This recent diagnosis comes at a particularly difficult time for the Kikuyu music community, which continues to cope with the loss of Betty Bayo. Her passing left a void in the gospel music scene, and now Peter’s illness adds to the sorrow.

As the community rallies around Peter, there is hope that timely medical intervention and the support of loved ones will help him fight the disease.

The situation also highlights the need for greater awareness about cancer and the challenges faced by public figures who continue to inspire others while battling personal health crises.
