A viral moment has left Kenyans debating faith, modern evangelism, and the power of meeting people where they are after a popular TikTok priest walked into Oscar Sudi’s Timba XO nightclub and turned the party atmosphere into a worship session.
Padre Michael Wetanga, well known online for his unconventional approach to ministry, arrived at the buzzing club on Friday night dressed in full priestly robes.
As he stepped into the building, club staff escorted him with a lit banner announcing his entrance an introduction usually reserved for celebrities and high rollers. Revellers froze in surprise before breaking into cheers, phones flying out to record the rare scene.

What followed stunned many: the club’s MC handed Wetanga the microphone, and rather than a speech, he led the crowd into a short gospel sing-along.
Video clips circulating online show partygoers raising their hands and dancing as Wetanga smiled and moved with them, blessing the audience before making his exit.
After leaving, he posted on TikTok: “The best reception. God bless the management for the kindness and love shown to me. I am just a humble servant of God.”
The incident has sparked heated reactions across social media. Some praised the priest for stepping into spaces many religious leaders avoid, claiming it is the best strategy to reach young people who rarely attend church. Others, however, argued that holy garments and nightclub spaces should never mix.
Online users wrote:
“Huyu padre ni ka sisi.”
“Go where they are, not where we want them to be.”
“Wacheni kuchezea Mungu.”
Still, many agreed that the moment was unforgettable and symbolic of changing times, where ministry is no longer confined to stained-glass walls.
Whether viewed as bold evangelism or misplaced theatrics, one thing is clear—Padre Wetanga knows how to make an entrance and start a national conversation.
