FKF boss Hussein Mohammed joins FIFA’s Institutional Relations Committee.

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed has been appointed to the FIFA Institutional Relations Committee, a key body that oversees cooperation between FIFA and national federations worldwide. The appointment marks a new chapter for Kenya in international football leadership.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya praised the achievement, describing it as a milestone that reflects Kenya’s growing credibility and good governance in football.

“This historic milestone marks a proud moment for Kenya, reflecting our rising stature in global football administration,” said Mvurya.

In his acceptance message, Hussein Mohammed called the appointment both “an honour and a responsibility.”

“This is not just a personal milestone but a proud moment for Kenya as we continue strengthening our place within global football structures,” he said.

His entry into the FIFA committee puts Kenya among the few African countries represented in FIFA’s internal governance organs.

The appointment follows a series of reforms Hussein has championed since FIFA lifted Kenya’s nine-month suspension in 2023. His leadership has been centred on restoring trust, strengthening ties with FIFA and CAF, and professionalising local football operations.

Under his guidance, FKF has focused on improving local leagues, developing youth football, and ensuring transparency in management — all crucial steps toward regaining global confidence.

Adding to the celebration, Abdalla Yusuf Ibrahim, a member of FKF’s National Executive Committee and president of Donholm Seniors FC, was also appointed to FIFA’s Stadium and Security Committee. The committee oversees safety and standards in global football venues.

This dual recognition puts Kenya on the global map, showing that the country’s football professionals are now trusted players in world football governance.

Sports analyst Mike Okinyi said the appointments show renewed trust in Kenya’s football leadership and could lead to more partnerships and funding opportunities.

“This recognition signals renewed trust in Kenya’s football leadership and could open doors for infrastructure and training partnerships,” said Okinyi.

The Ministry of Sports has promised full support for capacity building and governance reforms to align local football administration with global standards.

As Hussein prepares to take up his new duties, expectations are high that his role will help bring real changes from youth development programs to stronger institutional accountability, marking a turning point for Kenyan football.
